The Real Presidential Election Hasn’t Happened Yet? Electoral College.

LISTEN NOW! If someone were asked about the Presidential Election, some may consider the elections that just took place in November. But, did you know that the real election for the next President of the United States hasn’t even happened yet? The votes that were cast in November wasn’t for the President, but for the choosing of the electoral votes in each state that will vote this upcoming Monday, on December 19th. This is the Electoral College.
 
As Prager University explains it, “The President and Vice President of the United States are not chosen by a nationwide popular vote of the American people, rather they are chosen by 538 electors.” Each state has equal representation by having a certain number of representatives based on their population. Meaning that there are more representatives in Texas than there are in Massachusetts. If America was purely democratic, than the voting would focus only on the “majority vote” and not the “popular vote”. As Prager University continues, “pure democracies do not work, they implode…in a pure democracy, bare majorities can easily tyrannize the rest of the country”. If this were the case, Presidential candidates would primarily focus on the states with the largest populations.
 
Every American who cast their vote in November chose one particular candidate. At the end of the Novemeber elections, each of the 50 states was either Democractic or Republican. Now it is up to each of the state’s political party’s electors to cast their vote for President. Their vote is this upcoming Monday, December 19th, and it is this election that will be final. Has Much of the Church Become Institutionalized? The Price of Freedom! Jesus Came So That We Could Be Set Free!

 
Rick Joyner has written multiple prophetic books that have been revealed to him by the Lord. In one of his books, The Call, he writes about an encounter that he had with Christians. From a distance, he could see that their sight was limited, but when he stood close to them, they could see. Turns out that they were seeing from the light that was in Rick’s life. What he was seeing is that some people are in, what could be described as, prisons. Around these gatherings of Christians were high walls, and on top of these walls were guards.
 
In Rick’s experience, he noticed there was one hole in the wall in order to escape. But, this hole was full of every fear imaginable. In order to pass through the wall, he would have to overcome every fear. With resolute determination to get outside the walls of this “prison”, Rick made his way through the wall. As Rick continued his journey outside this one “jail”, he noticed there were others jails that Christians could end up in.
 
Freedom comes with the cost of responsibility. If we are going to be free in God, we have to know the Word of God. If not, we are going to blindly accept what we are being taught. “‘81% of self-professing Christians don’t read the Bible; and of the 19% that do, only 3% make life decisions based on what the Bible says.’ We have to spend time with God in order to know what He expectsof us. It is on this road with Jesus Christ that we learn that Jesus’ expectations, written in the Bible, are applied to each and every one of us and not the building. Our realities rapidly change when we realize every accusation and criticism that were once applied to the building, now apply to us. We cannot do this without the fear of the Lord. Without the fear of the Lord, we need fences around us.
 
Jesus came to set the captives free. It was those that were struggling with religious mindsets that had the biggest struggles with the teachings of Jesus. Some people would rather be a slave to their sin than be set free. Without freedom in our lives, we need fences around us. Institutions are not a bad thing. For instance, an orphanage is a good thing as it provides care for children because there are not enough people willing to be fathers and mothers.  At some point, we must realize that we need to step outside of the institution.  
 
When we look at America, we see that there are rights that every citizen should exercise; rights such as voting. But, all of this doesn’t work without the exercising of those rights. When a Harvard Business School professor talks with a student who was a Marxist economist, he is surprised as to what stood out to this student. “I had no idea how critical religion is to the functioning of democracy.” As the student continued, “The reason why democracy works is not because the government was designed to oversee what everybody does, but rather, democracy works, because most people, most of the time, voluntarily choose to obey the law.” Only a few short decades ago, people who did not identify themselves as Christians had a fear of God. Today, people who proclaim to be Christians do not live their lives as if there is a fear of God. Considering his student’s response, the Harvard professor asks himself, “As religion loses its influence over the lives of Americans, what will happen to our democracy?” He also points out, “If you take away religion, you can’t hire enough police.”
Without a fear of the Lord in our lives, this doesn’t work. God has called us to be free, but we have to choose to live free.
 
So many people would rather be institutionalized and stay in the confinement of their religious cell, while many are dying outside the walls. It is a difficult transition to walk outside these so-called walls and begin walking in alignment with the Commandments of God, going into all the world and making disciples. When we see one man’s transition from a life lived in the confinement of a cell, and into the freedoms of life, we can see how devastating this reality can be for some. How many people today are literally killing themselves, rather than face the realities of their freedom? How many Christians would rather continue their life of sin rather that follow the Lord in the Great Commission. “95% of Christianswill not win one person the Lord.”
 
We have to follow the Lord, regardless where He may lead us. It is vital that we break outside of the institutionalized walls of religion, i.e. “man’s traditions” and become doers of the Word. Each of us will be held accountable for what we have either done or not done. Each and every one of us can be free and live our lives free from the walls of man’s traditions. Be encouraged as you hear the whole discussion about the importance of abiding, discipleship, the Great Commission, being set free, and so much more. What is the True Power of the Presidency? Understanding the Electoral College

 

 As the final days of this Presidential Election is now only days away, the importance of understanding the power of this moment couldn’t be understated. There are many topics and subjects that are being talked about and discussed, but an important truth to remember, is the very essence of the power that is wielded by the one who will be eventually elected to the office of the Commander in Chief. Some may not know the actual details of the power that is available to the President of the United States. History.com reveals some of the power that is held in this position.

 

At the onset, some may understand the obvious; residing in the White House, and overseeing America’s population of over 300 million, but it is much more in depth. The President not only oversees the five different branches of the military, but also “decides where troops are stationed, where ships are sent, and how weapons will be used.” Additionally, there are over 1 million active troops, and another 1 million troops in reserve status that respond to the commands of the President. On an international level, “The U.S. gives nearly $50 billion in foreign aid to more than 180 countries around the world.”Not exactly your everyday 9-5 job. The question though is how exactly one gets the position of the President of the United States?

 

Some may assume that voting is strictly based on the numbers and that majority rules. But what about the states that have larger populations versus those with much smaller ones? This is exactly what America’s founders were concerned about and specifically addressed in the U.S. Constitution. This takes us to the understanding of the Electoral College. Prager University does an outstanding job making clear what some may not already know. “The President and Vice President of the United States are not chosen by a nationwide, popular vote of the American people; rather, they are chosen by 538 electors”. There are two Senators for every state, regardless of the population within the state, and there are a certain number of representatives based on the size of the state.

 

Looking more specifically at the Electoral College, its broken down into two phases: the 51 popular elections that are held in each state and D.C., and the second phase is between the 538 electors. The first is in November, and the second, in December. As Prager University shares, “the system encourages coalition-building and national campaigning.” That way, a Presidential Candidate cannot focus on just one state, they must be mindful of every state. Most importantly, “…it protects against the tyranny of the majority…”

 

With a general overview of just how important the role of the President is we can see more and more just how important voting is. Some have said that the President of the United States is the most important job in the world, but in reality, voting is the most important job in the world because you get to decide who will be the one that gets to delegate and control all of this power. By beginning to understand the very process that it takes to become President and the power that the President has, we can begin to see and understand that voting is not a right, it is an important responsibility. In fact, this is the topic of discussion Kenneth Copeland, Pastor George Pearsons, Bishop Keith Butler and David Barton focus upon.

 

When looking to decide who will take control of the office of the President, it is important that we have a Biblical understanding of the role of government. When some scriptures are referenced, some would perceive that it is the government’s responsibility to take care of the poor. But, as David Barton points out, that is not the case. “The only thing the government is to do with the poor is take care of civil process. Everything about meeting their material needs goes to the Church and to the individual” How important is it for us to see these responsibilities as ours and not the government’s when Jesus is not looking to the government to carry out these responsibilities, He is looking to the Church.

 

How can we, as the Church, begin to understand the importance of these issues if we are not talking about it? God is going to hold us accountable for the decisions that we make and especially the decisions that we don’t make. We did not choose whether to have the responsibility to vote, it was given to us when God allowed us to be born in America. Now, the question is, what will we do with this responsibility? The only reason we don’t understand the importance of this responsibility is because it is simply not being taught.

 

David Barton points out this important truth, “The Great Commission, Jesus didn’t say make converts, He said make disciples of all men and teach them everything  I’ve taught you…” He elaborates even further on this point, “Frankly, I’m a Christian. I don’t need to get saved 52 Sundays a year. I’m a Christian. I need something to do on Monday when I get to McDonalds, or Tuesday when I’m at Home Depot…” These are the very truths that we must understand. In order to make decisions about who our future leaders will be, it is imperative that we understand the values of God by first becoming His disciple AND spending time with Him.

When we understand the implications of these responsibilities, we begin to see them in an entirely new light, possibly even compelled to do something about it and be the answer that we desire to see. This is exactly what happened to Capt. Clay Higgins. As CBN News reports, Captain Higgins previously served “as a street cop and public information officer for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office in Louisiana.” Through his intensive hard work and work ethic, paired with his unique social media platform, he saw a “consistent solve rate almost double the national average.” Unfortunately, because of a difference of opinion between Capt. Higgins and his commanding Sheriff, Capt. Higgins decided to resign from his position. Unbeknownst to him, his fellow citizens rallied behind him and urged him to run for office. Now he is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Report Card for Congress: Wilberforce Initiative

 

You may have heard before that the problems in America are because of those in Washington. There are 530 elected officials in Washington because the 330 million people in America that voted for them. Not to vote is to vote. Instead of waiting until someone gets to office to find out what type of decisions they are going to make, we can educate ourselves beforehand.

 

The 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative was created in order to understand how our officials have acted previously regarding certain issues. Think of it as a scorecard. Former United States Representative, The Honorable Frank Wolf, said it this way. “If there is a vote on that issue, everyone ought to know about it. If there’s a vote on genocide resolution, which I hope there is soon, everyone ought to know how their member of congress voted on that issue. So, that’s really the purpose of it…” How beneficial would this information be when considering future candidates to make up the leadership of our nation?

 

You determine who your representative is. Too many people are pointing their finger at someone to blame. You are not only encouraged to take part in the voting process but also empowered and informed as to how, as well as the powerful story of William Wilberforce, and so much more. Get Involved in the Electoral Process: We have a Representative Government

 

As Americans, we have the freedoms offered in this country that not many others have the ability to exercise. Taking this into consideration, we must utilize this opportunity and get involved in what it means to vote, to choose who will be our nation’s next elected President.

 

Each of the candidates post their own websites, share their views and the vision for their candidacy. We can take the time now, before the time comes to step into the voting booth and select one of their names. We cannot rely strictly on a commercial ad, or what others recommend. Each us must decide for ourselves. Does the vision of a particular candidate line up with God’s values?

 

If you don’t think the existence of religious values has any benefit, just ask one particular Harvard Business professor. Clayton Christensen who once had a Marxist Economist from China who was completing a Fullbright Fellowship at the college. Intrigued to know what stood out to the man or what was “unexpected”, Christensen was surprised at the man’s immediate response.

 

“Yeah. I had no idea how critical religion is to the functioning of democracy. The reason why democracy works is not because the government was designed to oversee what everybody does, but rather, democracy works because most people, most of the time, voluntarily choose to obey the law; And, in your past, most Americans attended a church or a synagogue every week, and they were taught there by people who they respected…Americans followed these rules because they had come to believe that they weren’t just accountable to society. They were accountable to God…”

 

Democracy is not a spectator sport. You have to be engaged. This is the year that we can take the time and get educated. Educate ourselves so that the decisions we make will be informed decisions.

In nations past, leadership was changed after the carrying out of a war. This is no longer the case for us in present-day America. We have the ability and the freedom to be able to vote for those who desire to lead this nation. Allow these truths that guide you and encourage you to take time today to research those individuals who are asking for your vote because they will be the ones leading the nation tomorrow, be informed as to how vital your choice to vote, or not to vote truly is, and so much more.
